(REVIEW) Happy Apartments Barcelona

March 3, 2017

We are always on the look out for great family friendly accommodation. We definitely prefer to stay in apartments or aparthotels with separate living and sleeping areas. The amount of times we have had to sit in the dark trying to get our son to sleep!

During our recent trip to Barcelona we chose to stay at Happy Apartments. We booked a two bedroom apartment via booking.com with a 3 nights costing £205 which I thought was fairly reasonable!

After a rather hair raising taxi ride from the airport we arrived at the apartments. Now the entrance is a little tricky to find. It’s quite a narrow entrance sandwiched between a night market and a fruit and vegetable shop. You have to ring the buzzer and they will let you in. The reception is located on the 1st floor. You can access this via the stairs or lift.

Check in was really quick. We were asked to choose a unique PIN number for the front door (street level) I thought this for a great idea in terms of security! The receptionist then showed us to our apartment on the 4th floor. There is a lift for easy access with luggage and pushchairs.

Accommodation –

Our apartment was even better than the pictures on the website. We entered a large hallway/foyer with two bathrooms (yes two) on either side. There was also one large bedroom off this hallway area. You then entered a spacious open plan fully equipped kitchen and lounge. The furniture was modern and contemporary giving the apartment a very chic finish. The main bedroom was located off the lounge area. The bedrooms each had a king size beds (made up of two singles) with crisp clean white linen, wardrobes and drawers for storage.

There was a large balcony to the rear, with a view of the local neighbourhood. Whilst the view wasn’t spectacular it was quaint and I really liked the “authentic” feel!

Facilities –

The apartment was very well equipped. The kitchen area had everything you needed to live comfortably for a few days (pots, plans, crockery etc). There was complimentary tea, coffee and sugar as well as a nice welcome gift of milk and a bottle of water! The Senseo coffee machine was amazing, decent coffee after a long journey is essential! There is a washing machine available for use as well.

Each bathroom had a nice selection of complimentary toiletries as well as towels and a hairdryer.

The lounge was equipped with a large 42″ television and access to cable TV. There is also a smaller television in the second bedroom (to be honest I wasnt quite sure which was the main and which was the second bedroom).

WiFi is provided free of charge. Reception is attended from 6am until 6pm, there is an after hours number should you need it. Additional tea and coffee is available free of charge from reception. The staff are very helpful and friendly and happy to give advice about the local area!

Parking is available nearby, however this is not a free service.

Location –

We chose this apartment because it was situated just of La Rambla (the main street in Barcelona). Everything we needed was within easy walking distance. There is a large Carrefour supermarket and easy 5 minute walk away for essential supplies. La Boqueria is literally just around the corner, this is one of Europes largest food markets. You will also never be short of bars and restaurants in this area!

Happy Apartments is located directly across the road from Gaudi’s Palau Güell, which is one of Gaudi’s earliest commissioned buildings!

Our overall impression of Happy Apartments was excellent! The location could not have been better. The apartment itself was family friendly, clean, stylish and modern. Would we recommend Happy Apartments?! Yes absolutely!!

Disclosure: we paid for our own stay at Happy Apartments Barcelona and have not collaborated with the hotel on this review. All views are my own.
