We recently spent five nights at the fabulous Wychnor Park Country Club by Diamond Resorts. Nestled on the 55 acre Wychnor Estate in the Staffordshire countryside this hotel is full of country charm. Accommodation onsite is made up of self contained one to three bedroom apartments and cabins.
Entry to the resort is down a little country lane (we did think we were going the wrong way at first!) As you approach you are greeted by the stunning Grade 2 listed Great Hall. This is the main entrance and where you check in (Check in is from 4pm is which we felt was quite late considering check out is 10am).
Check in is quite straight forward, staff ensured that we knew about all of the services and activities that are available onsite. The hotel offers a breakfast service to all guests which must be pre ordered at reception. The pack is delivered to your room each morning!
There is also a restaurant and bar/lounge within the great hall. Restaurant reservations can be made at reception.
We were directed to our two bedroom apartment which was within the coach house just next to the main hall. Parking is available right outside which is great for off loading. Our apartment was on the second floor, unfortunately there is no lift so we lugged our suitcases up the stairs.
On entering I have to say that I was particularly impressed! Our apartment had two large bedrooms (one with ensuite), large main bathroom, lounge and diner and a huge fully equipped kitchen! The whole apartment was impeccably clean. It was lovely to see some period features within the apartment such as a fully working fireplace!
We were relieved to find a range of tea and coffee in the kitchen as well as dishwasher tablets and washing powder for the washing machine (yes washing machine!)
The lounge as equipped with a large television, two really comfy sofas and huge dining table.
Both bedrooms were spacious with lovely clean beds. Each room had a television, drsssing table and wardrobe. The main bedroom had an ensuite with a shower. There was a nice range of toiletries and fluffy towels.
The main bathroom was really big! There was a nice shower and large bath with yet more toiletries and towels.
We stayed in the two bedroom coach house apartment for three nights before moving to a two bedroom apartment within the stables area. This was due to the coach house apartment being booked by time share guests (Diamond Resorts offers a range of time share options). Our next apartment was very different in that it was split over two floors. It was very modern and clean, I think I actually preferred it!
There are so many great activities you can do at Wychnor! I have listed some below (please note that there are additional costs for some of the activities)
- Mini Golf
- Golf (9 holes)
- Bowling Green
- Childrens Playground
The grounds of the estate are absolutely beautiful and well worth exploring. From beautifully manicured gardens to wild forested areas!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Wychnor Park Country Club. L loved playing in the fantastic playgroup and we enjoyed at least ten rounds of crazy golf! The only negative thing I would mention was that Wi-Fi wasn’t included in the room rate. There was an additional £7.50 per day charge for one device!
Check out was easy and we were even treated to a lovely pack of sunflower seeds!
Things to do nearby –
Whilst Wychnor is right in the heart of the countryside the A38 is just a stones throw away, meaning centres such as Lichfield and Burton upon Trent are only minutes away. There are many great places to visit nearby. I have noted just a few below –
- Burton Marina
- National Brewery Centre (Burton upon Trent)
- Rosliston Forestry Centre
- Drayton Manor
- Lichfield Cathedral
- Wall – Roman Site
- National Memorial Arboretum
We would thoroughly recommend the Wychnor Park Country Club as an idyllic family friendly country retreat!
