Every summer the sleepy Leicestershire village of Heather goes a little bit haywire!!! Now in its 19th year the Heather Scarecrow Festival has become a major event in the North West Leicestershire calendar.
Local residents, schools and nurseries create scarecrow masterpieces that are displayed throughout the village. We went along on the last day of the festival, which is usually on for around a week.
The festival is a great fundraiser for the village! With all of the proceeds going to help local businesses, community programmes and schools!
This year there was an amazing 62 creations on show! The route around the village is about 2 miles long and is a fairly easy walk. I will say that there is no traffic management so keeping the little ones close is a must!
This year’s offerings did not disappoint with displays inspired by Games of Thrones, Minions, Remembrance Day, Recycling, Suicide Squad, Emojis and much much more!
There was also a little treasure hunt for the little ones, this year is was finding 15 Sammy scarecrows dotted around the displays. Unfortunately we must have been slacking because we only found 13 😆
It look us a good 3 hours to make our way round. We really did have a great day! So many talking points and there really was something for everyone. I’m so impressed with the time and dedication taken by all those involved and we will continue to return every year!
