The Snowman Tour 2017: Carrot Productions

September 28, 2017

Christmas is a time filled with wonderful family traditions. Whether it’s hanging your favourite baubles on the tree, making your Grandma’s famous Christmas pudding or eating far too many pigs in blankets!

For as long as I can remember the story of The Snowman has been part of our Christmas tradition. When I was a little girl I loved sharing the wonderful Raymond Briggs picture book with my Mum. It was a year round favourite. I now have the pleasure of sharing this story with my 6 year old son. I remember when the The Snowman was adapted for television, seeing the story that I loved so much come to life with such a moving soundtrack was magical! Now no Christmas is complete without sitting with my family and watching The Snowman.

When I heard that Carrot Productions were bringing the magic of The Snowman to life on the big screen accompanied by a 26 piece live orchestra and that we had been invited to attend, I was very excited.

There are three different programmes depending on the venue that you attend. All will show the 26 minute production of The Snowman. As part of the hour long concert you will also be treated to another exclusive animation. In most of the venues this will be a screening of the brand new animated film The Bear and the Piano, based on the wonderful and enchanting David Litchfield book and narrated by none other than Joanna Lumley! York, Worcester, Lichfield, Liverpool and Durham venues promise Tchaikovskys The Nutcracker Suite. Others will show the classic story of Cinderella. Please check individual venues for more details.

Each performance will feature a young soloist singing the iconic song from The Snowman “Walking in the Air”. Children will also be delighted by a visit from The Snowman himself! I’m not sure who will be more excited, me or Master 6!

The Snowman Orchestra

The 26 piece Orchestra is made up of world class professional musicians from around the country many of whom have performed with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and The Hallé. They will be conducted by the BBC’s Symphony Orchestra’s Steve Magee. The orchestra will perform Howard Blakes original score from The Snowman.

We are very excited about attending this amazing concert at Coventry Cathedral on the 9th December. Perhaps this will become another of our Christmas traditions.
