Over the past few years we have visited Butlins numerous times. We have packed our bags and surrendered ourselves to three or four days of Skyline Gang, Billy Bear and Red Coat fun.
I have to be brutally honest and say that prior to taking our first trip, I had some pretty strong ideas about what I thought Butlins would be like. Well I am here to tell you that I was WRONG! In fact I couldn’t have been more wrong.
I really wanted to share with you the 5 great reasons we think Butlins is a great option for a family break.
Accommodation of all Shapes and Sizes
There are three Butlins resorts in the UK – Skegness, Bognor Regis and Minehead, they are all nestled along the stunning English coastline. Across the three resorts there are so many different accommodation choices. From budget friendly hotel rooms, stylish apartments, to beautiful lakeside chalets. There really is something for everyone and every budget! Butlins also has a great selection of accessible accommodation options.
Seaside Apartment – Minehead
We have personally stayed in a silver hotel room, silver apartment and a seaside apartment at two of the resorts. Regardless of the choice they are all been bright, fresh and clean!
Whatever the Weather
Butlins has you covered! There is entertainment and activities for all eventualities.
The iconic Skyline Pavillion provides hours of undercover fun for the whole family. Fantastic live shows in the Pavillion itself as well as the theatre style Centre Stage, penny arcades, ten pin bowling, puppet theatre, sweet shops, toy shops, restaurants and much more!
There are indoor and outdoor fairgrounds with rides for everyone. The outdoor fairground has a very traditional style with classic rides such as the carousel and helter skelter. The indoor playground is aimed at under 5s and has age appropriate rides like the spinning tea cups and flying planes.
Enjoy the sunshine or the rain in the numerous play areas dotted around the resort. I’ll talk more about the outdoor activities below.
Get Creative, Get Active and Learn
All of the Butlins Resorts have fantastic outdoor areas encouraging families to get outside and get active. Everything from adventure golf, play areas, high wire and zipline courses, football academies, archery, go karting and more!
You’ll also find a great selection of indoor active choices such as mini fencing and ten pin bowling.
One of the things we love the most about Butlins is the opportunity for little people to get creative and learn. You’ll find live interactive creepy crawlers shows, science shows, messy play for under 5s, art and craft demonstrations and classes, pottery classes and more.
You Won’t Go Hungry
Granted you won’t find Michelin star restaurants at Butlins but you certainly won’t go hungry. There are so many restaurants, bars and cafes.
Whatever takes your fancy, whether it’s delicious fish and chips, flamed grilled chicken, pasta and pizza, burgers, sandwiches, buffet style dining, ice cream, sweets…..you will find it at Butlins.
You are probably best to check out the list of dining options here.
Budget Friendly Breaks
Lets face it times are tough and having a family holiday is not cheap. The great thing about Butlins is that it really is great value for money and you can find holidays that should hopefully be within your budget.
With the great range of accommodation on offer you can opt for self catering. Bringing your own food will certainly keep costs down. You can also choose from 3, 4 and 7 night breaks.
Butlins offers fantastic meal plans, (there are different plans available) which are great value. They often offer “children eat free” deals so be sure to check before booking! We have tried the meal plan once and found the choice of restaurants to be really good.
Did you know that you can book up to a year in advance and pay off your break monthly? Pay a small deposit and set up a direct debit for the rest.
Throughout the year the resorts offer great seasonal activities and fun. Have a Spooky Halloween, Happy Hoppy Easter or Magical Christmas at Butlins!
We have visited during the Halloween season twice and it’s safe to say we loved it. Halloween shows, costume parades, face painting, pumpkin carving and much more.
Oh did you know the Butlins also does “Adults Only” weekends?! You can find more information here.
So they are our 5 (or 6) reasons we think you should definitely consider Butlins for you next family break.
