Food Gusto Festival (Ashby de la Zouch)

May 27, 2017

We have settled back into life in Leicestershire and that means visting the annual Ashby de la Zouch Food Gusto Festival. The festival runs over two days (generally over the late May bank holiday weekend). We are self confessed foodies and we love to support local businesses so this festival is a perfect mix of both for us. In its third year it’s getting bigger and better each year!!

Held on the bath grounds in the historic market town of Ashby de la Zouch, the festival showcases amazing local food and drink suppliers. Entry is £2 per adult and child under 12 go free.

With everything from famous Melton Mowbray pies, bespoke handcrafted gin (yes please!) to delicious fudge in every flavour imaginable there is something pretty much for everyone!

Unfortunately it wasn’t quite the glorious sunny day we had hoped for, to be honest though it was nice not to bake in the sun with a grouchy sweaty 5 year old.

We made our way around all the different stalls and suppliers. We collected some delish pies, brownies and THE best chutneys in the world (I’ve never been so excited about chutneys in my life!) along the way. I was really surprised at how eager L was to try the food samples on offer. Hes not known for being overly adventurous with food, so when he tried wild beaver pie (and liked it!!!) I was a bit gobsmacked!

We then headed for the kids area for a lounge around on the lawn with a drink and a live magic show. There was a few rides and activities for the little ones. Lochlan had a go on the giant slide and trampolines before we made our way to the live entertainment stage.

We were treated to some amazing local dance acts, throughout the day there are different bands and acts playing on the stage. You really can make a whole day of it at the festival!

Unfortunately the grey clouds were closing in so after a fantastic couple of hours exploring we headed home. I have to say that it was the best one yet, although probably not as big as some other food festivals it’s a manageable size for families and the atmosphere is always great! Check out the Food Gusto website for other Midlands locations!
