Over the summer we ventured to the gorgeous Scottish Borders for a few days of exploring, chilling out and good quality family time. When searching for accommodation I came across the Glentress Forest Lodges. Lovely little timber pods nestled on a green hill just outside the historic town of Peebles and only 24 miles from the centre of Edinburgh. We booked for two nights and couldn’t wait to get our Scottish mini break started.
Located adjacent to the world famous 7stanes mountain bike trails the lodges are very popular with cyclists and are often fully booked. Prior to arriving the kind owners had emailed us to let us know which lodge we would staying in.
On arrival it was as easy as finding our lodge, parking and unloading our luggage (the key was in the door). I was immediately struck with how gorgeous the location is….picture rolling green hills, thick green forest and a view over the stunning scottish countryside.
Table of Contents
We knew before arriving that the pods were fairly basic inside, a good way to describe the them is cosy little wooden tents with a few mod cons. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by how homely and comfortable they felt.
Each lodge sleeps a total of 5 people (maximum number), on a convertable bed arrangement. During the day the main sleeping area becomes seating and table area and by night a large sleeping platform with pvc covered mattresses.
There is also a little kitchen area with a kettle and fridge. There is lighting and heating in each pod. My favourite part was the little windows that had cute tartan curtains and even some fairy lights. Each pod comes with a little decked area, picnic style seating, portable bbq holder and fire pit (we used this every night).
Glentress Forest Lodges are extremely popular with mountain bikers and rest assured if you are planning an action packed trip you will be well catered for. There is an outdoor bike cleaning area, secure bike storage as well as a drying room for bikes and kit.
There are seperate male and female toilet blocks which are excellent and importantly not a million miles away from any of the pods. There is also a well equipped kitchen and small dining area. If you fancied a bit of tv or a dvd you’ll find a nice little communal area next to the kitchen. Firewood and disposable is available from reception as well.

Glentress also offer tent (1 to 6 man tent) and campervan pitches. These can be booked directly by calling 01721 721 007.
