Yesterday we decided to make the most of the sunny afternoon, after school we headed to our local pick your own pumpkin farm. Cattows Farm is located in Heather, Leicestershire and is one of our absolute favourite places to visit. They have so many fantastic events on throughout the year!
This year we decided the put together a Autumn Family Fun Bucket List for the first time. Picking our own pumpkins was one 0f the items on the list. We’ve never actually done this before so I was excited to take L.
Access to the farm is easy and there is free parking outside the lovely farm shop and cafe. The fields are open everyday during October between 9am-5pm (Sundays 9am-4pm). We collected our wheelbarrow from outside the shop and directed by some friendly “witch crows” we made the short walk to the pumpkin fields.
This year there are over 10,000 pumpkins to pick! There are several different pumpkin and squash varieties and all different sizes, shapes and colours. L was eager to get into the field so we started scouting for three perfect pumpkins.
The view from the field was amazing and we were the only ones there so it felt like our very own private pumpkin patch. After scouting just about every pumpkin in the field we decided on three that were not quite perfect or orange but were definitely awesome.
We made our way back up towards the shop. Stopping on the way to pose with boris the spider, a ghoulish ghost and a scaredy cat. We then wheeled our rather heavy barrow into the shop where the pumpkins were weighted. Our three came to a grand total of £8.49 which granted is more expensive than buying them at a supermarket but the experience was well worth it!
L played for a little while in the small picnic play area and then we loaded our pumpkins into the car and headed home. I can’t wait to get carving!
We loved our first pumpkin picking experience and will be back next Halloween. Be sure to check out our 10 fantastic Halloween and Autumn Events in Leicestershire blog for other great family days out.
