During a recent stay in Antwerp we booked the Holiday Inn Express Antwerp City North for one night. We booked via booking.com as we always tend to do. We booked a family room for a Friday, the rate included a continental breakfast.
Parking is available at the hotel at a cost of €17 per night (correct 2017). It’s worth mentioning that the parking entrance is about 100 yards past the hotel. You drive down the ramp and ring the buzzer for the hotel and you can enter the underground parking area. The stairs lead you right into the hotel.
We actually parked our car well before our check in time and walked to Antwerp Zoo (around a 20 minutes walk).
When we headed back in the evening to check in we were told that an error had been made with our booking and that they would have to make up a family room for us. By way on an apology we were offered a free drink in the bar whilst we waited. To be fair it only took around 30 minutes.
Our room 108 was on the first floor at the back of the hotel. On entering we discovered that the room was actually a very decent size even with the made up sofa bed for L. This is a fairly new hotel and this definitely shows as the fixtures and fittings are in very good condition and whilst laid out exactly the same as other Holiday Inn Express hotels it was bigger! Our room had a lovely view of the Willemdok (well partial view).
There was a large queen size bed and a double sofa bed. There was loads of room to move around both. I can report that the bed was extremely comfortable!
The room was equipped with tea and coffee making facilities, TV and hairdryer with a large mirror nearby. There was also a small hanging area for clothes and coats.
The bathroom was very spacious and clean. Hand wash and shower gel was provided (it was the combined hand, body and hair soap which if your like me sends your hair a little crazy!). It’s worth noting that most Holiday Inn Express hotels bathrooms are shower only. If your children are used to baths it may be something to consider. The shower was lovely and big and the water pressure was excellent (which is super important!)
We were very impressed with the room. Whilst basic it felt modern and most importantly clean.
After a much needed sleep we headed down to breakfast which was served from 7am to 10.30am in the reception area of the hotel. The setting is very nice with modern furniture and a lovely outlook towards the port.
Breakfast was a good selection of cereals, ham, cheese, pastries, yoghurt, fruit etc. Juice, tea and coffee was available (coffee was totally drinkable). We were all fairly impressed with breakfast. After breakfast we checked out and headed off to explore some more sights.
Other facilities –
WiFi is available throughout the hotel free of charge. There is a computer and printer available for use. In reception there is a small selection of drinks and snacks as well as a few toiletries (I did note that the prices were very high!). Dry cleaning is available and there is a safety deposit box in reception.
The Holiday Inn Express Antwerp City North is fantastic was exploring the Port area of Antwerp. It is also very close to the central business and banking areas.
What’s nearby? –
- Museum aan de Stroom
- Red Star Line Museum
- Willemdok (which has many bars and restaurants for a great day and night out)
- Antwerp Zoo
- Centraal Station
Our overall impression of the Holiday Inn Express Antwerp City North was positive and we would definitely stay again.
