Recently we visited the lovely city of Leicester to experience some of the wonderful Christmas events on offer over the festive period. We had such a great day! After ice skating in Jubilee Square, taking a ride on the Wheel of Light, shopping at the Christmas Market and seeing the brilliant Beauty and the Beast Pantomime at De Montfort Hall, we were well and truly ready for some tea!
With our tummies rumbling we headed to the Middletons Steakhouse & Grill which is located on St Martin’s in Leicester City Centre. We were immediately wowed by the exterior of the restaurant. This stunning Grade II listed building was once home to the Natwest Bank but having been left empty since 2000 it was recently sympathetically renovated into a 200 seater restaurant.
On arrival we were greeted by the friendly staff who seated us immediately. It was a very busy Saturday night and the restaurant was buzzing with pre Christmas spirit. L was thrilled to be given a colouring sheet and crayons. The waitress also gave him a Christmas cracker!
The interior of the restaurant is really quite breathtaking. Sky high ceilings, beautiful windows and contemporary design features make for an amazing atmosphere. You can even see the chefs preparing your food in the open kitchen.
Middletons have two different menus that you can choose from, a fixed price menu (available Monday – Saturday 12pm-6pm) and the standard food menu. There is also a children’s menu for discerning little diners. Choose from the finest cuts of meat, freshest fish, quality burgers plus much more.
We ordered our drinks which arrived very quickly. We decided to order starters because they all sounded so good. Within ten minutes our starters had arrived and we were tucking in. The portions were so generous and we all thoroughly enjoyed our choices. L loved the garlic bread!
Unfortunately there was a very long wait between our starters and our main courses. We waited around 45 minutes, it was a very busy Saturday night but for L it was too long so when our mains did come he didn’t really eat. He was just too tired. Both Graham and I thoroughly enjoyed our main course. I ordered the piri piri grilled chicken breast whilst Graham went for the surf and turf.
L perked up a little bit when his make your own banana split dessert arrived. Im surprised that it managed to beat him because he can usually take on any dessert and win! We decided to skip dessert because we were so full from our amazing starter and main course.
It was then time to head home with one very tired little boy and full tummies.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Middletons Steakhouse & Grill in Leicester. The service was excellent, however I would say that the wait between courses was probably just a little too long. The food is hearty, homemade and delicious. We would definitely eat at Middletons again.
