Over the October half term break we visited Butlins Minehead for three nights. We’ve been to Butlins (Minehead and Skegness) a fair few times previously and it’s honestly one of our favourite places. I will be doing a separate post about our visit but for this post I’m just going to focus on the accommodation.
One of the best things about the Butlins resorts is the variety of accommodation that you can choose from. Each resort differs slightly but they all have different levels (standard, silver and gold). There is hotel and apartment style accommodation at each resort. Minehead also has amazing lakeside chalets and lodges.
Previously we have stayed in a silver apartment and we’ve also tried the hotel style rooms (no kitchen). This time we decided to go for the seaside apartment, which is part of the gold range at Minehead. We chose the two bedroom option (there are three bedroom apartments available). We went for this option because it looked so bright and colourful. Minehead is right on the waterfront in Somerset so we thought it would be nice to have beachy style accommodation.
On arrival we were directed to the Gold check in area. It was super quick and simple to check in. We were given our room keys, site map and entertainment guide. Thankfully our apartment was really near the carpark so moving in was easy (you can get airport style trolleys to help you with your lugguge). We arrived at 12pm, however our apartment was not accessible until 3pm.
Our accommodation was on the first floor with one apartment above and below. Each apartment has a lovely balcony at the front with a table and chairs. Unfortunately the weekend we visited it was horrendous weather so we didn’t get to use the balcony.
You enter into main lounge, kitchen and dining area. We were immediately impressed with the apartment. Whilst quite small it was perfectly formed. The lounge had a lovely corner sofa, coffee table and large television. The dining area had the coolest blue picnic table and chairs. I really want one for our house!
Along the back wall was the kitchen which was really well equipped. There was a fridge/freezer, full hob, oven, sink and lots of crockery and cutlery. We took drinks and snacks with us. You can easily prepare meals in the area. This time we went for a meal package so mostly ate in the buffet style restaurants. Another little quirky extra within the kitchen was the pin the tail on the donkey game. Attached to the wall you can have hours of fun trying to pin the magnetic tail on the donkey!
Leading off the lounge is a small hallway, with the two bedrooms and bathroom. The bright and colourful beach theme continues throughout the apartment. Each bedroom had a wooden slat wall behind the bed, this really added to the beachy feel. The main bedroom was a great size and it had a fantastic dressing area with hairdryer. The bedding was great quality and most importantly clean! The bed was so super comfortable as well. There was also a television mounted to the wall, great for late night viewing.
The second bedroom had two single beds, separated by a bedside table and there is also a good sized wardrobe. We ended up pushing the two beds together for L. He is a really active sleep so single beds are just a nightmare.
Next up the bathroom which was fairly standard but lovely and clean. They left us a small selection of nice toiletries which I always love. I don’t know about you but a shower can pretty much make break a hotel/apartment experience for me. I can report that the shower was perfect. There was also lovely soft towels, which came in the form of a spooky spider towel creation.
A few little extras in the apartment were ironing board, iron and airers. It’s little touches that make all the difference. We chose to have housekeeping every day which was fantastic. The staff we so friendly and helpful.
We thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay in the seaside apartment. We did spend quite alot of time in the apartment due to the weather. It never felt small and the bright colours were great considering how dismal it was outside.
Final thoughts are that we would definitely stay in the seaside apartment again. They have a really awesome holiday feel and are a good size for a short stay.
